The Stimulation Snake 100 foot print project

The Stimulation Snake project is a hundred foot, 30 print project I am currently working on.

The Mind is Meat is Machine print project nearly destroyed me. Having taken over two and a half years to complete, I found myself facing a horrible dilemma. Not only was I starting over career wise but I had created a monster. My goal with that project was to up the ante for the digital medium. To raise the bar so high that no one could deny the validity of the work. But once it was complete, I had done just that. I had raised the bar so high that I wasn’t sure where to go. The MMM project was large and self contained, created in sections over a pre-measured canvas. The thought of doing another one of such scope was enough to bring on anxiety attacks.

As an artist at this stage in my career, working on another non-commissioned print that takes years to complete is simply not an option. But I couldn’t go back to making smaller less complicated pieces.

The Stimulation Snake is my solution. The Stimulation Snake is a series of linear prints that run on from one canvas to another that connect to make one 20″x100′ print. The creation of the Stimulation Snake solves my major problems. I am working in sections that are 20″x40 to 80″ at a time. Each print contains anywhere from 1,000 to 1,500 layers of photographic imagery. Every time 40″ of the Snake are completed, I chop it off and have a single 20″x40″ print ready to be shown.

The Snake will be slowly growing over time. In a sense the project is already done, and it will never be done. I can stop and take a brake, I can work on it for years.

Like our life experiences and memories, the snake will grow and evolve. The print will morph and change with my moods and circumstances. It will be a road map of my career and dedication to this still disrespected medium. i may grow tired of the concept and only complete 15 pieces. It may never become tiresome and I may spend the rest of my life creating hundreds of feet of the Snake.

But for now my target goal is 30 prints. All printed out in one giant roll that stretches out across some future unknown gallery.
